Embracing the New or Unexpected
17th Annual MA History Conference June 6-7, 2022
INTEGRATING HISTORY AND THE ARTS
Bring history to life through the performing and visual arts. Sally Cragin of the Stratton Players shares this community theater’s experience in planning and presenting two original theatrical productions in Fitchburg’s historic Forest Hill Cemetery. Sally will talk about the process of creating original theatre pieces from letters, historical sources including newspapers, and the process of collaborating with numerous municipal departments to make theatrical productions possible. Patrice Tiedemann of Seaglass Theater Company talks about creating an historically informed production that began with a faded diary entry, and the artistic process in creating historically informed mediums from art exhibitions to parlor concerts. We’ll also consider how museums and foundations can collaborate with artists to enhance and highlight their collections in ways they might never have considered.
Presenters:
Sally Cragin, Stratton Players
Patrice Tiedemann, Seaglass Theater Company
